Chin is In

A well-defined chin and jawline are critical to a balanced and attractive face. If you are not pleased with your profile, bothered by a “weak” or recessed chin, or feel your features lack proportion, a chin implant in Miami at Zuri Plastic Surgery can provide a permanent solution tailored just for you.

At Zuri Plastic Surgery, your chin implant will be performed by quadruple board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Alexander Zuriarrain, known affectionately by his patients as “Dr. Z.” Dr. Z designs your chin implant around your face, making sure to add just the right amount of volume. He can also recommend complementary procedures that can subtly accentuate your features to make sure you get a final result you will love. Dr. Z is a professor as well as a surgeon. He can help you understand your options so you are empowered to make the decision that is right for you.

What are chin implants?

Chin implants are a form of chin augmentation surgery to improve the chin, neck, and jawline contours. At Zuri Plastic Surgery, Dr. Z uses Implantech medical-grade silicone implants molded to fit around a patient’s chin bone to provide a natural look and feel. These silicone chin implants create volume in a soft, flexible, biocompatible form that does not reabsorb into the body. They come in various sizes and contours that can be selected and even customized to achieve the look you want.

What are the benefits of chin implants?

Balance: Chin implants create a better-defined chin and improve facial harmony by bringing the chin into better proportion with other features, such as the forehead, cheeks, and nose.

Definition: Correcting a weak or recessed chin with an implant also improves neck and jawline definition and helps reduce the appearance of a full or “double” chin caused by a small chin bone.

Dramatic, lasting results: Unlike a temporary solution such as fillers, chin implants provide dramatic, lasting improvement for your profile and facial contours with relatively little downtime and no easily visible scarring.

Am I a candidate for chin implant surgery?

If you are a male or female between the ages of 18-60, in good health with normally functioning teeth, and are unhappy with your profile, a chin implant can make a visible difference in your facial structure. At Zuri Plastic Surgery, we perform an in-depth analysis of your facial architecture to determine the best options for strengthening a small or recessed chin and what other treatments can be done in combination with this procedure to enhance the results.

What other procedures can be done with chin implants?

We often combine chin implants with buccal fat pad removal (cheek reduction) along with neck liposuction to help contour the cheeks, chin, and neck and further enhance the definition of the jawline, creating a naturally sculpted and refined facial appearance.

We can also use Renuvion J plasma to improve the results even further. The Renuvion device harnesses radiofrequency energy and the unique properties of helium plasma to gently contract tissue just below the surface and help tighten the skin in the neck.

What happens during chin implant surgery?

Chin implant surgery is usually an outpatient procedure and typically takes less than an hour to perform, although operating time will increase if other procedures are being done.

The chin implant procedure is performed using general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. During this procedure, a small incision is made either inside the mouth or underneath the chin. Dr. Z creates space for the chin implant through this incision and fits it around the chin bone. Once the implant is in place, Dr. Z closes the incision with absorbable sutures and bandages the chin to help hold the implant in place until the swelling goes down.

Recovery after chin implant surgery

Most chin augmentation patients experience relatively little downtime and can return to desk work and most other daily activities within seven days after surgery. You can usually resume strenuous activity within three to four weeks.

You may feel tightness around the area of the chin implant immediately following surgery due to the body’s normal swelling response. Discomfort after surgery is typically minimal and easily controlled with pain medication or cold compresses. You might also notice a change in sensation in your chin once the local anesthetics wear off. This is perfectly normal as sensory nerves close to the implant adjust to their new, tighter surroundings.

Keeping your head elevated helps swelling resolve sooner. You will need to sleep face-up, with your head elevated, for at least 1 to 2 weeks after surgery to help control post-op swelling and protect your healing incisions. You might be advised to stick to a soft diet for a few days. It is essential to follow any specific instructions for recovery to ensure you heal well and your results look great as soon as possible.

Chin implant FAQs

How soon will I see results from chin implant surgery?

Results look close to final within one month after surgery and are considered final after about three months when all residual swelling subsides.

Do chin implants need to be changed at any time?

No. Silicone chin implants are very strong and are intended to last a lifetime. They never need to be replaced, but they can be easily removed if desired with another surgery.

Are the results of a chin implant permanent?

Yes. While the natural course of aging might affect your facial appearance in other ways, the enhanced contour created by your chin implant will not change.

What are the risks of chin implant surgery?

When performed by a qualified, experienced plastic surgeon Like Dr. Zuriarrain, chin implants are associated with very few complications. But, like any major surgery, chin implants carry some potential risks. Possible complications include infection, hematoma (internal bleeding), shift in implant position, poor scarring, and side effects from anesthesia.
