Rhinoplasty

Who Needs Rhinoplasty?

If there is any area of the face which grabs attention, it is the nose. It is central to everything, and when it appears to be disproportionate to all the other facial features, it has a detrimental effect on an individual’s self-esteem.

Aside from this, there are many others who seek the expertize of Dr. Zuriarrain for rhinoplasty rather than for aesthetic reasons. They may have birth defects; they may have had a serious injury or they have breathing problems.

There are many procedures in rhinoplasty, or a nose job to rectify any issues a candidate may have.

Before a Rhinoplasty Procedure

Any rhinoplasty candidate will have a consultation in the clinic of Dr. Zuriarrain. Before conducting his examination, the candidate will learn there are two types of rhinoplasty, these being open or closed.

He will then find out the reasons for the procedure, be it a crooked nose, the profile or size, the candidate has a large nasal tip, or there is a problem with their nostrils.

At this stage of the process, all candidates will be advised of the pre-op procedure, what will happen during the procedure and what will happen during the recovery period. After having a deep discussion on medical history and if there are any herbal supplements, drug use, or even smoking. Dr. Zuriarrain will make his recommendations when he conducts his examination of the nose.

One of the final steps when he thinks the candidate is suitable, he will take pictures for reference, and to be part of the before and after pictures.

During Rhinoplasty Procedures

While rhinoplasty procedure may appear to be less complicated than other forms of plastic surgery, it does take lots of skill to get things right. If the operation is an open procedure, then incisions are made down the length of the columella, which is the area between the nostrils.

Closed rhinoplasty on the other hand will have all its incisions inside the nostrils. Dr. Zuriarrain will already discuss this during the consultation and the patient will understand which approach he will take.

Once either incisions are made, then cartilage, bone and tissues can be reshaped to obtain the right sizes and proportions. In the cases of breathing difficulties Dr. Zuriarrain will straighten, deviated nasal septum’s correcting this issue.

Being an outpatient procedure, these will be conducted under general anesthesia, and the nose job procedure can last up to three hours as a standalone procedure. If being done in tandem with other plastic surgery, then this time may be extended.

Following Rhinoplasty Procedures

Patients will be given the advice to move around when they return home. This can reduce the likelihood of blood clots forming. Oral painkillers may be prescribed to control pain, puffiness and possible headaches for the first few days.

Patients may find their nose stuffy when trying to breathe, lots of bruising and possible bleeding. These symptoms can fade within ten days, and many patients who undergo rhinoplasty with Dr. Zuriarrain are back at work just after a week following the operation.

There will be the need for a follow-up visit, and it will be recommended not to do any physical exertion for up to six weeks. To see the full results can take a few months. This is the reason why there are many individuals who seek the help of Dr. Zuriarrain for revision rhinoplasty, to correct the mistakes from a previous operation.
