Who Can Benefit From a Facelift?

There is no getting away from the effects of aging. It can happen to us all, and the main area that shows is in the facial region. We first see wrinkles around the eyes, and then other areas form deep creases, lines, and folds as the skin loses elasticity, the face muscles weaken and we lose collagen.

Dr. Zuriarrain understands how the effects of aging can deliver a severe knock to a patient’s self-confidence. Anyone, male or female can be a possible candidate for a facelift procedure. Through a thorough consultation, they work together with the patient to determine what the goals will be for the facial rejuvenation procedure. A facelift will lift the soft tissues, redistribute fat, tighten the facial muscles and then remove any portions of excess skin to deliver a more youthful look.

During a Facelift Procedure

While there are different types of facelift procedures, the duration and what happens during the procedure are constant. These procedures are often performed under general anesthesia, where there will be a professional overseeing the operation.

The surgery will be outpatient-based and can take anywhere from a couple of hours up to six depending on the patient, and the extent of work to be done. Locations for the incisions may vary, yet they will be placed to leave the least amount of scarring possible.

During your facelift Miami plastic surgeon Dr. Zuriarrain will lift facial tissues, redistribute fat pockets into an area where it sits best and will smooth out the lines and wrinkles. Once this stage is complete, then the skin will be smoothed across the top of these tissues and the excess skin is trimmed. In many occasions, these facelift procedures are performed in tandem with other facial surgical procedures, and all this will be decided during the initial consultation.

Consultation for Facelifts

Every plastic surgery procedure will begin with a thorough consultation in the Miami, FL clinic of Dr. Zuriarrain. A facelift will need some careful consideration on the side of the patient, and the doctor needs to fully understand the structure of the areas to be operated on.

After fully explaining the procedure, there will be pictures taken for further reference and for the before and after pictures. It will be determined in the consultation if the patient is suitable by looking at their current and past medical history. This takes into the consideration of any medication, herbal supplements, or anything else that may lead to complications during a facelift procedure. Dr. Zuriarrain will help you shed years from your appearance with a facelift in Miami.

Candidates will find that excessive alcohol consumption; smoking and recreational drug use will be prohibited leading up to the operation and following the procedure. Patients who are unable to follow this will find they may not be suitable.

Recovery from a Facelift

Once the procedure is over, most Miami facelift patients can return home on the same day, unless they decide to stay in the hospital overnight. The incisions will be closed with sutures or staples, and there may be a drain tube fitted to capture excess fluids and blood.

For pain management, Dr. Zuriarrain will prescribe oral painkillers for the first few days until swelling begins to reduce. There will be repeat visits to check on the patient’s condition, and to possibly remove any tube, sutures or staples.

If patients follow all the recommendations for self-care, they can expect to return to work in around two weeks. The majority of swelling will have subsided after one week. Strenuous activity needs to be avoided for up to six weeks, and there will be further recommendations on how patients can best care for the results of their facelift once they are back doing regular activities.
