(PRP – Plasma Rich Platelets)

What is Microneedling with PRP?

For many different reasons, individuals think they are lacking the appearance, which they desire. However, with microneedling, this can change, and with a minimally invasive procedure, individuals can get a smoother and youthful looking appearance.

In this process, tinny needles penetrate the outer layers of the skin and introduce micro-injuries. This then stimulates the skin to produce collagen and elastin. This is what leads to skin being more flexible and having more strength.

The PRP (Plasma Rich Platelets) come from a patient’s own blood. This is then used in conjunction with the microneedling on the parts of the body the patient seeks attention.

How Does PRP Therapy Work?

This process can be used on the face, neck, arms, abdomen, hands, back and legs. The way the process works is Dr. Z’s clinic draws a small amount of blood. This is then separated by use of a centrifuge.

In the test tube will be the red blood cells, white blood cells and the plasma that is a light yellowish color. This portion is used in the procedure.

Once the procedure begins, the face is numbed with a topical anesthetic around an hour before treatment. With the microneedle pen, the doctor will run over the surface, and place drops of the growth factor rich plasma onto the skins surface. Like ink on a tattoo, this is pulled into the layers of the skin where it will bathe the cells and enhance the natural healing process of the micro-injuries.

Will I need a Consultation with Dr. Zuriarrain?

All treatments begin with an initial consultation to check patients past medical history. Aside from this, there will be an examination to make sure there is nothing such as eczema, psoriasis, and skin infections, or medications used in the areas to be treated.

One thing, which will require discussion, is the extent of work because there are different depths the microneedles can go.   For the majority of individuals, this is a suitable treatment to regain a youthful looking appearance.

What Happens During and After Microneedling with PRP?

Once you begin the procedure, you will feel like fine sandpaper is rubbing over the skin. The entire process aside from the numbing can take up to forty-five minutes depending on the extent of treatment.

Once the treatment is finished, the areas treated will be red like you are sunburned. Healing time will depend on the number of passes and how deep the needles went into the skin.

For most patients, it takes around 24-hours for the redness to subside, and Dr. Zuriarrain will advise to take another day of rest. A skincare product may be supplied to aid the healing process.

Once the swelling subsides, patients notice, or feel there is a difference in their appearance. Several treatments may be recommended for optimal results as long as there is sufficient rest in between.

Venturing in the sun is advised against for the first couple of days, and a good quality sunblock is advised, as well as refraining from makeup right after the procedure.
