Sculptra is a collagen-stimulating option for facial wrinkles, cheek lines, and age-related facial volume loss. Results develop gradually as your body increases collagen production, making it a strong fit for patients who want subtle improvements and natural-looking results rather than an abrupt change.

At Zuri Plastic Surgery, Dr. Alexander Zuriarrain uses Sculptra to restore support where facial volume has thinned and soften areas that have started to look flatter or more drawn. Your treatment plan is based on your facial structure, skin quality, and the areas you want to improve.

What Is Sculptra?

Sculptra is a collagen biostimulator made with poly-L-lactic acid, or PLLA, a biocompatible material used in medicine for decades. Its microscopic particles help encourage new collagen formation in the deeper layers of treated tissue. Sculptra is FDA approved for shallow to deep nasolabial fold contour deficiencies, other facial wrinkles, and fine lines and wrinkles in the cheek region in appropriate adults.

Once injected, PLLA helps stimulate collagen production within the treated tissue. The product itself is gradually absorbed while the collagen response continues to develop. This creates a different type of correction than a traditional gel filler and is one reason Sculptra is often used for broader facial support.

How Does Sculptra Work?

Collagen helps give skin firmness, structure, and support. Production decreases with age, which can affect skin quality and contribute to lost volume, flatter cheeks, deeper folds, and a softer lower face.

Sculptra is injected into selected areas beneath the skin, where its PLLA microparticles trigger a gradual collagen response. The temporary fullness you see immediately after treatment comes partly from the fluid used to prepare the product. That early volume settles, then the collagen response becomes more noticeable over the following weeks and months.

A treatment series is common. Many patients receive two to three sessions over several months, with the number of visits adjusted to the amount of correction needed and how your tissue responds.

What Can Sculptra Treat?

Sculptra can be used for facial concerns tied to collagen loss and reduced support. Common treatment areas include the cheeks, nasolabial folds, and other facial wrinkles within its approved indications. It can be especially useful when facial volume loss is spread across a broader area rather than concentrated in one small hollow.

Sculptra is not used in the lips. The eye area also requires careful product selection, since thinner tissue and highly mobile areas may call for a different injectable. Dr. Zuriarrain evaluates the full face before deciding where Sculptra fits.

Sculptra vs. Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

Hyaluronic acid fillers add immediate volume and are often used when a patient wants targeted correction, such as cheek definition, lip volume, or improvement in a specific hollow. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, Sculptra does not create its final effect by leaving a gel in place. Our dermal fillers in Miami include several options when precise shaping is the priority.

Sculptra builds gradually through collagen stimulation. It is often chosen when the concern is broader facial thinning, reduced cheek support, or a change that should develop more slowly. Sculptra also cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase, which makes careful placement especially important.

The two approaches can be used together when there is a reason for each. Dr. Z may use Sculptra for overall support and another injectable for a feature that needs more immediate definition.

Benefits of Sculptra

Sculptra may be a good fit when you want gradual facial rejuvenation with limited downtime. Benefits can include:

  • Gradual, natural-looking improvement
  • More support through the cheek region
  • Softening of facial folds and wrinkles
  • Collagen stimulation in treated tissue
  • Results that may last up to two years in studied facial indications
  • Minimal interruption to most daily routines
  • Treatment that can be adjusted over a series of visits

Who Is a Good Candidate for Sculptra?

A good candidate for Sculptra is generally an adult in good overall health who has facial wrinkles, lost facial volume, reduced cheek support, or other signs of facial aging and is comfortable with gradual results rather than immediate volume.

It should not be used in patients with severe allergies to its components, a history of anaphylaxis or multiple severe allergies, or a history or susceptibility to keloids or hypertrophic scars. Treatment is also postponed when there is active infection or inflammation near the injection site. Safety has not been established during pregnancy or breastfeeding or in patients under age 18.

Your medical history, previous fillers, facial procedures, medications, allergies, and any history of active infection or healing problems are reviewed before treatment so Dr. Z can decide whether Sculptra is appropriate for you.

Your Sculptra Consultation

Dr. Zuriarrain looks at cheek structure, facial volume, skin quality, symmetry, and the areas that have changed over time. He also considers your aesthetic goals and how one area affects the rest of the face. That broader view is especially helpful when facial aging involves diffuse volume loss and a more comprehensive facial rejuvenation plan may make sense.

Your consultation covers the number of sessions you may need, treatment areas, expected progression, and whether another injectable or procedure belongs in the plan. If another option fits the concern better, Dr. Z will explain why.

What Happens During Sculptra Treatment?

Sculptra treatment is performed in the office. The skin is cleansed, and each treatment area is mapped before injection. Sculptra is reconstituted with sterile water before use, and lidocaine may be added when appropriate for comfort. A topical anesthetic may also be used depending on your treatment plan.

Dr. Z places the product through a series of injections based on the treatment plan. The area is massaged afterward to help distribute the product evenly.

You will leave with specific aftercare instructions. Post-treatment massage is an important part of Sculptra aftercare. A common recommendation is the 5-5-5 routine: five minutes of massage, five times a day, for five days, unless Dr. Z gives you different directions.

Sculptra Recovery and Side Effects

Most patients have minimal downtime after Sculptra treatment. Swelling, redness, tenderness, bruising, or temporary firmness can occur in the treated areas and usually improves as the skin settles.

Papules or nodules can develop after Sculptra, sometimes weeks or months after treatment. Infection, allergic reactions, and other injection-related complications are also possible. Careful placement and proper aftercare help reduce avoidable problems.

Contact our office if you develop increasing pain, unusual swelling, skin changes, signs of infection, or another symptom that concerns you.

When Will I See Sculptra Results?

The first visible fullness after injection is temporary. As that fluid settles, the treated area may look closer to where it started. From there, collagen production continues gradually, and subtle improvements become easier to see as your own collagen builds after the first treatment.

Changes often become easier to see over the first several weeks and continue through the treatment series. Clinical data for approved facial indications show results that can last up to two years.

Maintenance timing varies. Dr. Z bases future treatment on how your face changes and how long your results last.

Can Sculptra Be Used on the Body?

Sculptra is also used off-label for certain body treatments. Zuri Plastic Surgery offers a Sculptra Butt Lift for patients interested in gradual buttock enhancement without fat transfer or implants.

Body use falls outside Sculptra’s FDA-approved facial indications. The amount of product, candidacy, treatment plan, and cost are considered separately from facial Sculptra.

How Much Does Sculptra Cost in Miami?

Sculptra cost depends on the number of vials used, the treatment area, and how many Sculptra sessions are recommended. Someone treating mild facial volume loss may need less product than a patient addressing more diffuse volume loss across the face.

Pricing is provided after consultation, once Dr. Z has evaluated your face and determined how much product is appropriate.

Why Choose Zuri Plastic Surgery for Sculptra?

Dr. Alexander Zuriarrain is a quadruple board-certified plastic surgeon with experience across surgical and nonsurgical facial treatments. That background gives him a detailed understanding of facial anatomy, facial volume restoration, and how changes in one area affect the rest of your appearance. His approach is centered on balanced, natural-looking results rather than adding more product than your features need.

Sculptra treatments at Zuri Plastic Surgery are planned around your features rather than a standard injection pattern. Product amount, placement, and timing are selected for the face in front of us.

Sculptra FAQs

How many Sculptra treatments will I need?

Many patients receive two to three sessions over several months. The number of treatments depends on your anatomy, the amount of correction needed, and your response.

Is Sculptra the same as dermal filler?

Sculptra is an injectable biostimulator made with PLLA. Hyaluronic acid filler adds gel volume immediately, while Sculptra stimulates collagen gradually.

How long does Sculptra last?

Clinical data for approved facial indications show results lasting up to two years. Longevity varies with treatment area, number of sessions, anatomy, and normal aging.

When can I go back to work after Sculptra?

Many patients return to normal daily activities soon after treatment. Swelling, redness, tenderness, and bruising can occur, so plan around important events if those temporary effects would bother you.

Can Sculptra be combined with Botox or other fillers?

Yes, when the treatments address different concerns. Dr. Zuriarrain plans combinations around your anatomy, treatment areas, and timing.

Is Sculptra permanent?

No. The collagen response can last a long time, but Sculptra is not considered permanent. Maintenance may be recommended as your face continues to age.
